yet another hardware cloth Q

iso Oct 08, 2003 01:45 PM

Hi all

I see a lot of suggestions to use 1/4" hardware cloth for cage building. I was curious as to why some say use pvc and others do not. I understand there is a concern regarding rust, but the non coated is galvanized so rust should not be an issue.

Is there another reason to use the pvc coated? And if you use pvc coated..what is the easiest color to "see through".

thank you very much

i believe the 'coated' kind is softer on the chams feet. Galvanized metal is kind of rough and might cause abrasions/tears in thier feet.

By the way heres a great site selling ALL KINDS and sizes of stuff.

I think that the main reasaon would be asthetic. I might be wrong, it might be a little softer, but I don't think it really matters that much. I kept mine in normal 1/4 inch screen (the silver aluminum kind that is galvanized but didn't have the plastic coating on it) and never had a problem. I think truely it is your own presonal preference, because your chameleon won't be on the screen a whole lot anyways, and when it is, there won't be a big difference. Good luck!
