Just buy the washed stuff from Toys R Us. Depending on your area, they may not sell it all year though. We had to stock up for the winter.

If your going to use sand it's a good idea to purchase the washed playsand at home depot or toys r us and sift out the larger pebbles with a screen. When I use to use sand I would put an old window screen over the tank and pour it through that. When you read "washed play sand" on care sheets I think what they mean is just don't go down to the beach, or the playground and take some sand cause of the germs and bacteria in it. It's not healthy for the reptiles. Then I guess you would have to wash it right, lol
