I have a friend who painted the inside of a wooden enclosure for her dragons. But, I do not know what kind of paint she used. I think she used normal outdoor acrylic but I am not sure. She did have to give it some time for the fumes to disipate.
If you don't want to go this route you can always use an aquarium background. Get a desert type background of the appropriate size and put it on the inside of the tank. They are plastic and waterproof and you could staple it in place with a staple gun. It would last a long long time and could be easily wiped clean when needed. I had one on the INSIDE of an aquarium habitat for some aqautic turtles, for a couple of years. Just as good the day I removed it as it was the day I put it in there.
