m/f? tamatave cont.

jovbunny Oct 08, 2003 07:06 PM

Ok I posted my picture of my baby tamatave and ask if it was male or female yesterday. everyone said it looks female. my questions is do females have pale green dots? and a pale green head? this one does most of the time. it wont hold still long enough for me to get a close picture of the spots...

I am beginning to think the chameleon is only 4 months old. I bought it online and the guy said it was the last male at 3 months. but it stayed real small forever. do the males show color at 4 months too? this is so frustrating. I wish all panthers were born either blue or pink to tell you whos boy or girl would make this simple.

Female panther CAN have colored dots, generally a blue tint to their cheeks in Nosy be or Ambanja females. But by the pic you posted I'd say I was 99 percent sure it's a female. Even if it was 4 months, as light of a brown as she was with little to no colors yet, it's pretty clear. The little 3 month old male Tamatave I have I think is beginning to show a slight amount of green on his head and a little on his sides. But his normal color is a darker brown color and his horizontal bar is bright white. I still think mine's a male, but I'll need a little more time to see. I guess it's theoretically possible for your panther to be a male, but at least from the picture it's unlikely. Post more pics if U want. Maybe our minds will change.

Ok thank you again. I did post a new pic of it. I just want to be 100% sure because I am itching to buy it a future mate.

I saw the new photo and I'm still saying female. I've got a 6 month old female Sambava right now that looks similar to her. Where did you get yours from? There's a great bloodline coming up from Kammerflage Kreations from their Tamataves that I think will be a PERFECT example of a Tamatave. I got one of them about 3-4 weeks ago. I guess officially, they haven't quite released them yet though (I got an early hatcher), but they will be this month. I'm still hunting for that perfect female Tamatave for my male. They seem to be hard to find.

I got my Tamatave from some guy in New Jersey. I have been keeping an eye on kamerfladge's tamatave's, but I'm kinda leaning toward somewhere else just to keep the bloodline's fresh.
I'm going to be looking for some sambava's within the next year. if you or charm_paradise will have some avalible please let me know. I'd buy just for all the helpful info you guys have given me.

I guess I should change my signature now

My panther turned out to be a female also. She has green along her spine, and even has light blue under her bars sometimes. She has blue and or purple and or green in her cheeks too.
and we thought females were just boring brown.
Show her a mirror and see what happens. That is, if males will display at the age yours is. My female doesn't respond to mirrors.
She did get mad at me and flare up ONCE though.. She turned yellow with orange and had black bars... I do'nt think she liked my shirt lol.
Now I'm SURE she's female, b/c she's pregnant lol

You're more than welcome I enjoy getting one here and sharing my imput, for what it's worth. I don't know when John's expecting, but I won't have any Sambavas available for quite a while. I'm expecting my first Sambava eggs in about 5 days actually. So maybe a year from now. And about a year and 3 or 4 months from now I'll have another completely unrelated Sambava bloodline. So, not quite yet. Just some crosses and an awesome set of Nosy Be's in the meantime.
