Just some quick info for anyone looking at this post who is interested in getting a bulldog.
1) NEVER buy a bulldog from a petstore. That dog you see does need a home but if people don't buy them it will help to end the cruelty of puppy mills. Oklahoma is a notorious state as far as people getting away with running puppy mills goes. I have a bully that I got from a breeder both parents had their AKC Ch. titles and there were more than one daogs in the pedigree in the BCA hall of fame. I bought the dog from them in their house and after chatting for awhile they made me dinner and always welcome me into their home. This dog cost me $1500. Less established but equally responsible breeder will sell dogs for far less. Pet stores are more expensive. If the cost at a breeder is why you want to buy a dog from them and the cruelty doesn't matter to you PLEASE DON'T GET A DOG.
2) When researching what you need to know to get a dog go to www.thebca.org They will refer you to breeders in your area and they provide care sheets that will let you know what you are getting into. They also post available rescued dogs. Many rescues are free and already trained.
3) Don't buy a bulldog puppy if you can only afford one. Their cuteness is highly addictive and you WILL want to buy another. If you are unprepared for the cuteness they can be difficult to train as you will be letting the dog get away with murder.
Have fun with your new dog and when you want that next one don't go to a pet shop for the dogs sake.

Sean
