From U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance

Pet Supply Company Partners with Anti's in the Classroom- (03/21)

Pet supply retail giant PETCO is working in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's largest anti-hunting group, to bring the animal rights message to school children across the country. The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance demands that this relationship be terminated.

The HSUS is on record in opposition to all hunting. The animal rights organization calls hunting "fundamentally at odds with the values of a humane, just and caring society," and has been the principal opponent of hunters and trappers in dozens of campaigns in the 50 state legislatures, in Congress, in the courts and in over a dozen voter issues.

Sportsmen have seen similar situations before. A company, with which
millions of sportsmen and sportswomen do business, agrees to partner with
HSUS without considering the complete agenda of the organization. The
fact
that PETCO is bringing HSUS directly to America's children makes the
situation a true crisis.

"Businesses tend to be uneducated about the real intentions of groups like
the Humane Society of the United States," said U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance
President Walter P. Pidgeon. "The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance calls on
sportsmen to speak in defense of their hunting, fishing and trapping
heritage. Let PETCO know that it is unacceptable for a business to help
bring the anti-hunting sentiment of the animal rights movement into
America's classrooms."

Take Action! Sportsmen should contact PETCO and let the company know that
its support of an animal rights group that is working to end America's
outdoor heritage is unacceptable. Contact Brian Devine, President & CEO,
PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc., 9125 Rehco Rd., San Diego, CA 92121. Phone:

Red Sky, I live in a semi-rural area in Maryland where responsible hunting is still the norm. This area abounds in deer, and Canada geese and other waterfowl that are hunted for food. What kind of hunting do you do and what kind of dogs do you hunt with?

Well, Tasha, I've had a number of strokes in recent months and am currently not able to live the life I once did. I recently moved from Montana to California, to be nearer my sons.

Right now I have American bulldogs as I've had for many years.

However I've had a large variety of hunting dogs over the years, pointers, a couple of springers, and coonhounds. And one Chesapeake who was quite a bird dog.

I've never used dogs on deer, or bear, but I know those who did in Montana.

Thanks for asking.

Sorry about your health. Glad you are near family though it must have been a wrench to leave Montana. (If you're reading this twice, the system lost my first post - and then refound it)

Gathered that from your posts on Rare Breeds, etc.

Ah, A Chessie! A dear friend of mine had a few; I only knew his last one, Chester-Peake. For fun, he would tree the garbage men on their truck on trash days and swim in the Bay in dead of winter in the freezing cold. Didn't bother him! Amazing, stubborn, loyal and intelligent dogs.
