Excess Pulling

xtreme4life Mar 27, 2003 01:50 PM

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and just wanted to see what kind of feedback I'd get in here. I have a 6 month old female Staff X Red Nose and she is getting stronger by the day. I have tried every method of training, tried the choke colar as well but isn't working too well. I was wondering about a haltie or the prong colar. Anyone have any suggestions.

If she is pulling that strongly that she is towing you and not you walking her, I think the prong might be a way to go (perhaps with the tips on the prongs). There are a couple of posters who do use and prong and could tell you how they are best used.

There is a post below that asked that same question. I think it is one of the first few posts. A few folks have given their opinions as I did as well.

I also have a female APBT that is terrible on a leash. I got her when she was about 2 years old and obviously had little to no leash training. I tried harnesses, choke collars, etc. I have found the prong collar the best (and most humane) method. I've read lots of bad stuff about the choke chain. The prong collar does not hurt. Infact, I put it on my neck and pulled. It feels odd, but does not hurt at all. The only thing I don't like about the prong collar is the looks of it. It looks a bit tough, which is the last look I'm going for with Lucy. Good luck. They're not very expensive ($10)
