why is she doing this????

bellathecat Mar 28, 2003 08:44 PM

I can't figure out why Butterball is barking in the parked car. She does this when we go inside the store or eating out. This is the first time I have seen her do this. Is this because we lost Sitka and she is lonesome or what????

She probably feels threatened and lonely.

Don't take this wrong, but why are you taking your dog with you to the store or out to eat? It drives me nuts when I see a dog left in a car for any length of time. If it is just a couple of minutes, like to pump and buy gas, I don't have a problem with it, but to leave a dog for 30 minutes to an hour in a car is just way to much. If you live in a cold area, it won't get too hot, but if the tempurature outside is above 70 degrees, it gets hot in an enclosed car really fast. In my area, we've had dogs die in enclosed cars within 30 minutes and I don't live in a hot area.

I'm only concerned about the dog.

Please everyone be careful if you leave your dogs in the car with the windows open. Last year we had several incidents where the owner left the windows open a little bit. Enough for the dog to breath but also enough for someone to throw pellets of rat poisen or chocolate into the car. One dog died, one was very sick with lasting injury.

You should only leave your dog in the car for a few mintes and within view.

The granual rat poisen, it only takes a few grains to kill your dog. It takes up to two weeks. I know this since my pup ingested some but I got him to the vet within minutes. He had swallowed only two grains and she the vet that was enough to kill him or ruin his organs. Please, Please be careful.

She usually goes in the car where I can rolled down the windows. But she been going in the van and the only windows I can rolled down are the front windows.

Around summer she doesn't get go for ride in the car, because of the heat. It been cold in the morning during this winter, so it hasn't bother her.

She goes in tomorrow for a shave, so the long hair is going bye bye.

By the way, Butterball is golden retriever/lab mix - so she can loose all this hair.
