Mini/Mini Dachshunds Explain

erinz Apr 03, 2003 08:19 PM

I have been a miniature dachshund owner my entire life. I do not have one currently and have been searching for a puppy for a while now. I spoke to someone who breeds mini/mini dachshunds. She said that the males reach 5-6 pounds at adult weight and females 6-8.

I have never heard of this before! Are there any health complications related to dachsies this small? I am going to see the dog on Sunday and would like to learn more about this tiny little form of a dachshund. Can someone help or point me in the right direction?

Thank you!

Hi!

There is no such thing as a mini/mini dachshund. Please don't let this person fool you into paying too much for such a dog. Mini dachshunds weight according to AKC should be below 11 pounds. I don't know of any health problems with a small mini, but I would be extremely cautious.

I would strongly urge you to write to their breed club and see what they think on this matter. They may know of this breeder, or perhaps they can direct you to a reputable breeder. They helped me when I was looking for a mini dachshund pup a year and a half ago.

Good luck and keep us posted!
