Would it be possible to put her in a very large, carpeted shed, close to our house? ( About the size of a normal dog pen )

This could have a lot of problems. One would be social isolation for the dog. Dogs are pack animals with a deep need to be with their families. Social isolation can cause terrible problems.

Another problem would be the inside of the shed being too hot in summer weather. Dogs have a very poor ability to tolerate heat, especially without a lot of ventilation.

In the house is best, especially at night.
