Rittie rescue(?)

Geckgirl Apr 10, 2003 06:02 AM

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of adopting a rottie from a resuce group. I currently have an older male beagle who is docile, and decent with other dogs, but he won't "beg" to play with them. He's on a good diet of Bil-Jac senior formula dogfood. I am good "friends" with two rotties, a year-old female, and an older male.
I live on about 2 acers, and I would be able to walk the dog everyday. Our yard is pretty large with some interesting entertainment, including a (fenced in!) flock of chickens, and a pair of goats (also fenced). Does anyone have any sugggestions for me about rottie rescue? Any info will help me out. Thanks a million....
Leslie M.

Hi Leslie. Not sure what area you are from, but if you want to contact me, we can make sure you have a GOOD rottie rescue group to work with. I can't tell from your post, but it sounds like this will be an inside dog. If NOT, a Rottie is NOT a good choice. Nearly every fatality with Rotties have been outside dogs. They simply need too much socialization (as do all dogs.. but most are not potentially as dangerous when unsocialized) to do well outside. Getting the opposite sex of your dog will also help and frankly for a new rottie owner I wouldn't even CONSIDER same sex adoptions. Otherwise, you should be fine.
