training aggressive 5 yr old beagle

pegd Apr 15, 2003 07:53 PM

We have an aggressive beagle(blue tick hound). He is only aggressive with me. Can a dog that old be trained, any suggestions on how to do it myself, I don't want to pay for a trainer. He is starting to scare me.

You would probably need the help of a behavior specialist. It's very difficult to do behavior modification on your own with a dog who scares you, because your body language loudly broadcasts your feelings to the dog. A dog that old can be trained, especially when the problem is confined to only one person. It may be fairly simple, when a behavior specialist teaches you ways to handle the dog differently. But I do think you're going to need that professional help. Ask your veterinarian to recommend someone locally.
