Tyler jumped through a window...

Story-Time...

It was a interesting weekend. My house has a kitchen, then a door which leads to a enclosed porch, with another door that goes to fenced in back yard. I had to leave for a few hours, and my mom and I had just finished making the porch puppy proof. We figured Tyler would be better off with awhole porch opposed to a cage. Especially if we would be gone for more than a few hours. So, Sunday we decided to try it out.
I had the back door (that led outsid) open just enough so he could go and relieve himself. My mom has an acre of land behind her house (plus the small fenced in part). And it was warm out, so i figurd he'd enjoy the fresh air. I locked the kitchen door, and then left. I was only going to be gone for a few hours, so I figured it would be a good test day.
The kitchen door has a window. It comes up past my waist. A little while ago it was broken, not really shattered but it had a crack down it, by my brother. We had it taped up and it had a cover to protect people from accidently touchignit or whatever.
Standing on his hind legs Tyler cuold barely reach the bottom of the window and honestly none of us even thought it would be a problem. It didn't even enter our heads.
I came home and opened the door, hoping everthing was okay. Tyler is waiting at the door for me, wagging his tail and jumping out. I look, half expecting him ttohave broken the door, and see the glass all over the floor, the cover and tape shredded. I panicked and checked him for cuts/scratces. He was perfectly fine, not even a cut. I picked up the glass and called my mom. We were both shaken up because he could have really hurt himself. We have yet to figure out how he actually jumped through the window. He still standson the side of my bed and whines until i help him up, let alone jump 3 1/2 4 feet.
Looks like Tyler is a cage pup. We can't keep him outside because if he can jump through that window, it won't be too long before he can clear our fence. It was scary, and I still can't get over the fact that he did it and didn't get hurt.

First off, I'm really glad Tyler is fine and not hurt. But he was bored and wanting company and he obviously got upset enough that he tried the impossible (and it wasn't). Cage is such a bad word.....crate is a bit better only because it is less negatively loaded. Implies the den that all dogs like to have. Tyler needs to be safe and the crate will help keep him that way as long as it is only a few hours and then a break. Also, toys in the crate help.
