Should I buy 2 Beagles?

ahilton May 24, 2003 08:01 PM

I am in to purchasing a beagle. I am a teacher, so I will be home all summer. Come fall, it will be left alone more often. I hear beagles like companionship. Dou you think I should get 2 so she has a buddy? Or am I looking for trouble?

It's better to raise and train one dog before getting another one. Otherwise people often wind up with two dogs who aren't very interested in humans, don't listen to you, and can't bear to be separated. It's very sad for the dogs when they HAVE to be separated for some reason, such as the illness or death of one of them.

Dogs sleep about 14 hours a day, some even more. The pup may still need a mid-day potty break by fall, so you'll want to think about how you'll handle this when you're gone to work.
