When do Yorkies start teething?

gigi Jun 11, 2003 07:54 AM

When I purchased my yorkie, the breeder told me she about 4 months old. She then started teething a week later. I remember reading somewhere that Yorkies start their teeting process when they are 4 months old. On the other hand my vet told me that pups start their teething when they are 6 months old. My vet also told me that my pup could be about 6-8 months old.

I'm very confused about this, can anyone please help? When did your Yorkies start teething and how long did it last?

THANKS!

almost forgot....tell me if is this true...
Giving your pup/dog an egg a day will help make their coat heathly and shiny?

I would think a dog as small as a Yorkie would mature more quickly and have the permanent teeth in sooner, but PHSmDog will know for sure!

As to the egg a day, you don't want to give a dog uncooked egg white. You could cook the egg, or give just the yolk. I would think an entire egg a day might be too much for a Yorkie, but again, PHSmDog will know that much better!

Teething depends on when the parents started, and the grandparents, etc. It depends on the line. My line begins teething about 4 to 5 months.

Eggs, where to begin. I've been taught that raw egg whites are not good for dogs. But you should discuss eggs and diet with your vet.

Better yet? Use canola oil. A teaspoon on the pups dinner every night will help. HOWEVER, remember that if the silky shiny coat isn't in the genes, nothing you do will make a difference.

Thank you "KDiamondDavis" and "PHSmDog" for all the help. I really appreciate it.

I meant to say hard boiled eggs...but if canola oil works, then thats what I'll try.

Thanks again!

Olive oil works, too, especially extra-virgin olive oil. I gave my dogs canola oil for years, and changed them to extra-virgin olive oil when hubby and I changed. I thought their coats looked great before, but in about 3 weeks on the extra-virgin olive oil, the improvement was startling. So that's what they get daily now.
