I was out walking tonight with my two dogs and came across a woman with 2 golden retriever puppies (littermates) approximately 11 - 12 weeks old. The male puppy I thought at first had been into some black paint as the base of his tail and rear end was black. After I got closer I realized that the puppy actually had black hair. The comment from the owner/breeder?? (not sure) was, "About every 200 hundred puppies one pup will 'pop' out with black in their coat". I was under the impression that this is genetically not possible unless a 'black' dog was thrown into the mix!! In every other respects this pup looked all golden retriever to me.
