Undertank heat strip elevation?

OnceAHero Oct 08, 2003 09:56 PM

This might seems like an etremely newbie question, but I need to ask anyway. I'm just wondering; how high above a wood table would you recommend I elevate a ten gallon tank with an undertank heater? I'm going to have a layer of tin foil underneath the tank, and possibly a thin board of styrofoam under that, but how much of a gap would you recommend between the heating element and the items below it?

A very small amount, you only need like 1/8"-1/4" of space, like the thickness of a piece or two of corrugated cardboard. Just so it is off the suface entirely (not touching)

most uth's come with little sticky feet for your aquarium. I've used these for a while now with no problems
if you're really worried about heat, maybe put something else under each corner to boost it up a little more
