Calling all Rotts!

rottweilerdriver Aug 03, 2003 08:23 AM

Where are you? What are the rotts doing? Even if you are all lounging around fighting for space around the AC vents, that counts too!
Next year I am buying one of those life jacket/ floating thingies for Max so he can enjoy the pool as well! I think he is so terrified of the pool because 1) It 'disorients him' and
2)He swims like a boulder
And remember....A BIG dog like a ROtt can EASily put you under water when he is scared, and your helping him! LOL! They also scratch the heck outta ya when they are tryig to climb on your head to escape the above mentioned water.
(It's hilarious because he Sooooo wants to BE in the pool with us. He run around whining, and trying to find a way in, then he finally FLINGS himself in, (Usually without encouragement) and then he realizes what he did and panics! LOL! Poor Max!
Anyway, if nothinging else, at least check in and say "Howdy" so we know that the sun hasn't melted you or your rotts into pudding!
Warmly,

I don't even think the floating device thing would help with mine!! Mine think water is totally evil!!

You know, it amazes me when it's hot, these ding dong dogs will go out and lay right in the sun!! With their black coat wouldn't you think that it would make them hotter?

It's been so hot here, I don't know how they handle it. They get so bored couped up in the house and the garage. They prefer the garage because the cement floor is so much cooler. Plus they are shedding so bad, they don't get to come in as much. On top of there being a "dogs in the house" issue that I can't really go into here.

Glad you are working so hard getting the board going!1 You keep at it Jackie, we will get them back!!

We are into the third week of triple digits, and all of mine are staying inside. Not a one asks to go out. Early AM and around 6:00, just before feeding. I also have one that lays in the sun. She has mild HD and it must feel good to her to bake.

Yeah it s hilarious! Sometimes I have to BOOT mine out of the door to even go potty! (Unless I have a tennis ball then they can't WAIT to go out!) but then it is HILARIOUS, Max will try and HIDE the ball in his "flibber lips" and sneak it inside. I always catch him and say, "Ah! Drop it!" and with out breaking stride he spits it out, rolls his eyes at me like "Awww Geeeze!!!" and walks inside! If the little Ratter is too close when the Rott spits out the ball, it bounces off him, which makes him SCREAM as though he was being murdered (We don't call him Courage the COWARDLY dog for 'nothing ya know!) in which case Max panics (Thinking he stepped on Monty) and RACES into the house to go to his crate! LOL! Why he does this "self punishment" I don't know, I never used the crate for punishment
but it is way to funny! Ahhh yes, the Summer dawg Daze around here!

It's probably not a self punishment thing, it's probably a refuge. He probably just freaks when Mony squeals. You know that crate is for more than just "roaching"!!

Teehee, they know where the safety is!!

Our summers haven't been as hot as your's this year (thank goodness) but Brandy loves to bask in the sun. I think she's just keeping an eye on the van to make sure I don't go anywhere without her. Hooch follows me everywhere so if I'm in the air so is he. Being up in the north woods the dogs have been having a blast digging out chipmunks. You know, those pesky little Larry watabees. Drives the dogs nuts to see one of those critters disapear down that little hole. Yesterday the stupid rodent actually ran UP a tree instead of down his hole. Course by the time they get fininshed digging you could bury the whold dog in that hole. Brandy also likes to wollar(sp) in the mud. She'll splash water out of the wading pool to make a mud puddle then slpash herself with it. If I'm changing the pool water she'll chase it down and start digging a river throwing mud all over the place and herself. On really hot days I'll just let the water run and she'll play in the mud for hours. Think she might be part pig???

My babys (19mo Lexee and 5 mo Teddy) will only stay out for a few minutes at a time. We have two air conditioner vents in our living room and there is always a dog on both! It is driving me crazy!
