my dog stinks

matt77 Aug 03, 2003 08:24 PM

My dog has been smelling for a couple of weeks now. I have given him a bath with shampoo, and it has remained. He has been swiming quite a bit. His ears are clean, but it seems to come from the neck area. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

Maybe it is a skin allergy/infection? Is he/she itching alot? You might want to call your breeder or call and ask your vet.

Check the coat in the "mane" area, and also the collar. When I adopted my male Belgian Tervuren, he had a massive coat, and I'd been warned his grooming was out of control, so I had a friend pick him up and I first met him at the shop of a groomer who is the best ever. I knew I could trust her with my dog. She took care of the hair, but when I was working with his collar to put tags on, etc., I realized it smelled like, well, you don't want to know what it smelled like. I tried to get rid of the smell, and nothing worked. It was a nylon collar, and I can't imagine why it couldn't be cleaned, but it couldn't. So of course I threw it out.
