Brittany pup

angelawina Aug 20, 2003 01:38 PM

Hello all. My family is bringing home a 6 week old Brittany pup on Friday, and i would like to enter her in agility trails. I was wondering how does one begin and train. It would be best, I think, to start her at an early age. Any help would be great!

Hi!

Congreytulations on your new pup!

6 weeks is way to young for a puppy to be removed from its mother and siblings. Is there any way the breeder can keep the pup until 8-12 weeks? A puppy needs the socialization and to learn from its mother and should never be removed this young. If you must, you may be in for alot of training and behavior issues you're not prepared for.

I hope for the puppies sake, the breeder can keep the puppy longer. Even though I'm sure you are anxious to get the puppy.

Welcome! Also Congrats on your new fur-kid! Agility is great fun and me and my dogs love it! I have been doing agility with my dogs for about 7 years. No, I'm not a pro, but I do belong to an agility club and its lots of fun. I highly recommend taking your puppy (after all of shots are done) to puppy kindergarten/obedience classes. This helps you and your puppy to get to know each other. Also, in the sport of agility its a must for your dog to have excellent recall and listen to you. I will be happy to post lots of agility links for you and would love to hear more about your pup and hopefuly you will post pictures! Below is a picture of my Border Collie, Reata. This was her first agility trial.

Good luck!
