Is the border collie right for me?

jdlyk Aug 25, 2003 04:42 PM

Hi. I'm considering getting a border collie. I have a large house with a huge park/field down the street. I have 2 cats. With school and all I only have 2-3 hours of excersise time. He will only be alone Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 to 3:45. I am considering getting involved in agility or flyball.
Any help would be nice!!!

Welcome! I have a female (spayed) Border Collie and we compete in agility. She is a wonderful dog but very different from any dog I have ever had. Yes, they do need lots of running and play time and they love their humans. I recommend that you find a good breeder or recuse organization and talk with them. They will be able to help you slect the right BC. Good luck! Let us know what you decide

there are two things to consider here, We currently have a b/c mix and she has a high prey drive. She REALLY fixates on our cat, although they have no physical contact, because the cat lives upstairs and the dog lives on the main floor (this is the CAT'S choice, not ours). And our dog can bunny hop our front yard 42 inch fence in a flash. Other than that, she is a great dog, although I have heard that some b/c have very high energy. Good luck with your choice,
