Glue Traps for lost leos?

StarGecko Oct 08, 2003 10:36 PM

Eek! A mouse! I saw one in my house today. I wanted the glue traps, on the off chance a leo escapes when I have the traps out, I would not want a fatal trap out in the house. The glue traps are non-poisonous, the mouse sticks to it, and you throw it away. It says in case of accidental contact with adhesive, clean-up is easy with vegetable oil. Got me thinking, would these be a good way to catch lost leos in the house? You could stick some mealies on there! Probably a little extreme for most lost leo situations, but in cases where there is a cat in the house (can be very perilous for leos), you could put the traps out around the house and lock the cat in a different bedroom for the night.

Might be a bit of a mess to clean up, but any remaining glue that did not come off with the veggie oil would come off in next shed anyway.

I think a leo might be inclined to drop his tail if he were to get stuck.

have you ever seen a mouse or rat that has gotten stuck in one? trying to pull it off will litterally pull off hair and skin, not nice. got a good idea at all.

Don't used them...

Mice get stuck in those things and either chew their legs/tails off to get away, but also can get the noses stuck down on the trap and suffocate.
And there's no real way to pull the animal off without injuring them. That stuff is super strong.

Best thing to use would be the humane traps you see from time to time... It's like a tube that the mice get stuck inside. Then you can just drive down to a park and let them go.

Aside from being inhumane, the glue used is very strong, and even if you could get it off eventually, the gecko would probably suffer a lot of damage--maybe even broken bones. We caught a mouse in a roach motel (basically the same thing, with maybe less glue) and had to kill it, because we couldn't get it off and couldn't just throw it in the trash to starve or die of thirst.

They're really a very nasty way to trap anything. I can't believe they even market them.

i had lost a young leo for seven months and didnt even know it had escaped. i thought my adult had eaten it but i found it seven months later under my couch alive and well. ive had it back now for about two years and remains the same size, not growing at all. dont know whats up or if this will help at all, but i think that its pretty cool that i found it after all that time and it was alive and well.
