ADVICE NEEDED! My doxie is driving me crazy.

I have a 13 months old miniature wirehair dachshund. Most of the time he knows to go potty outside, but he also does the usual excitement and submissive accidents, which I'm not that concerned about. Recently, however, he refuses to go potty outside. Yesterday I spent a good 2 hours doing the potty drill - 15 min outside and 15 min in his crate until he went potty. After 2 hours I gave up and brought him back to his crate. A minute later, he pee'd in his crate, and it looked as if he was licking his urine off to cover his mistake. Needless to say, I bathed him, brushed his teeth, and cleaned his crate thoroughly.

This morning, he pee'd outside OK, which I praised him as if he'd just won the lottery. He wouldn't poop, however, so I brought him in to feed breakfast (his pooping habit pre/post meal is about 50/50). I laid down his food in his bowl and when I returned from taking a shower I noticed that he did not touch his food, but instead, he was feasting on his own poop (YUCK!).

What can I do to make him stop eating his own poop and licking his own urine? We have a 1.5 yr old child in the house who the dog constantly licks, and after this incident, I can't have the dog play with my child. Do I have to let the dog go? Any advice would be appreciated.

Start with a trip to the veterinarian for the dog. Also, avoid all punishment for housetraining accidents. That can create much worse problems than the ones you have now.
