Rubbing on bed....

Purball Sep 16, 2003 05:00 PM

Hey all, I have a question about my 1yr old Golden (un-altered) male named Finnegan. He's a real sweet heart... Anyhoo, he likes to rub himself on things.
Like he'll duck his head down and fall over till his side is leaning on the bed- with his back mushed up against it... and then he'll walk. If the matress isn't on right, he'll push it up.
I think it's kinda weird, he does it to the couch too, but only when I'm in the room.... Anyone know why this could be? It doesn't bother me, and I think it's kinda cute-
I'm really just curiouse, then again, if it's something totaly gross... lol. So, any thoughts?

Thanx!!

(below is a pic of Macintosh- our 4 yr old golden with our resently Raibow bridge bound kitten Jasper...)

Hi, just wanted to let you know that my pup (8 months) does this too. Especially after a bath. Funny.

First I want to say "What a handsome boy"!!! and great pic....

Dogs rub on things to A). Itch a spot that they often can't reach normally, so they use other objects for the scratch. Or B). To mark thier scent

My golden likes to do it outside, he will roll on his back and twist side to side to itch his back. My pom on the other hand goes around and around the couch with his back turned towards it to itch it.

It reminds of someone using a wall to itch their backs....

I do love this picture!!!

Anyway, my greyhounds to the same thing. They get itchy and rub their bodies against the couch, bed, fence, or even me sometimes to get them to rub them.

Hi! What a cute story! My golden used to do that too!

But he mostly did it on the bed and on my husbands stinky socks. I think he may be trying to get your scent on him. Maybe not. But my Australian Cattle Dog, Sammy does that with dry sheets (Bounce) and newly emptied soap boxes. I think he just loves the smell and wants it on him.

In any case it makes me laugh and adds joy to my day.
