Raum the stink Bomb

second_hand_rose Sep 29, 2003 11:23 AM

I really didnt think of this till it kinda came up last night, or I would have asked it in my other post, anyways...

Raum our 6 month old has a very bad gas problem. Our house is small (one level 2 bedrooms) and when he lets "go" he can clear the room or house in our case. It happens around night mostly but thats not the golden rule sometimes he'll let "go" all day, just laying on the floor sleeping and being stinky. Its quite gross and when we have company its worse try watching a movie with your face hidden in your shirt.

We feed him purina puppy chow for large breed dogs, and found that changeing his diet to Iams was even worse than before we changed it.

This summer in July he came down with parvo even though he had his 2nd set of shots.. he spent a total of 8 days in the vets and wasnt given a good recovery. But he's our trooper and pulled through 1000 bucks later. After comming home from the vets he was put on a bland diet that consisted of bland vet soft food, rice and a small amount of cooked -boiled- hamburger
(vets orders) and even with this new bland diet it was the worse ever !!

so are we doomed to live with Raum and his flatulance (sp?) or is there a way to curb down the stink?

Christa

Hi and welcome to the DogHobbyist Message Board.

I am surprised that you haven't gotten any responses about Raum's gas problem. IMHO the problem is diet. But I think it must be a problem with Rotties as I've heard many Rottie owners complain about it.

I use Nutro dry food for Large Breeds. I have never noticed a problem with either of my Rots having a gas problem, they have low stool output as well. My French Mastiff eats the same food but I mix her's with a little bit of canned food and water to make a gravy due to a health condition. She rarely if ever has gas problems either.

Rodsden's, one of the oldest families of Rottweiler breeders in the US uses Nutro for Large Breeds. It was by their recommendation that I switched to this brand of food.

If you read the posts below, there are a couple of other feeding methods recommended.

Most male dogs are ready to be neuteredc when both testicles have dropped. Sometimes they don't drop until a year or a little later. Once in a while they won't both drop. In that case it is imparative that they be neutered ASAP as that can cause major problems. Check with your vet.

Know what?? I was wrong about there being a post further down the page!! Sorry about that.

Many of our Rottie folks prefer to feed BARF diets (Bones And Raw Food) but I think that those dogs typically have gas problems too.
