Dog aggression problems.....

MyBullyTrik Oct 09, 2003 01:03 PM

Hi - I am new to this forum - I actually own an American Bulldog, and I posted this message on the AB forum, and PhTasha suggested I post it here to for extra help (thanks by the way!)
So any suggestion welcome....I will paste the message below:

>>Hi everyone - I am new to this group. I will give a brief info about me and my dogs. I have a 7 yo male Rottie (Keiser), a 1.5 yo male Amer Bulldog (Trik), and a 4 month old female Bullmastiff (Toola). My Female 8yo Rottie passed away about 6 months ago (cancer).
>>So I know of the AB breed very well - the agressiveness - but my AB has become VERY aggressive. My first notice of this was at about 10 months old - he attacked my brothers intact male mutt - he wanted to kill him - and I freaked. So I became more cautious. My 2 males got along fairly well - as a pup, when left home alone together, the AB would have some nicks on his head when we got home - so we took the male rottie away from him.
>>Now after our female passed (May/June) - we had 2 males only - no good, my rott does not want to play with Trik - they ended up fighting over food, and I had to break it up - SO SCARY...Oh by the way - these are mine and my boyfriends dog - we live together. Trik had cuts - Keiser had none? Trik never broke skin - but had a death grip. So they got fed separate - of course, and they aren't left unsupervised together. But last week - they had a HUGE brawl - Keiser was sleeping and growled at Trik - and Trik attacked him at 9:30 at night - we were watching TV. My boyfriend got in the middle, and got bit on the leg (black and blue). So we have kept them apart completely, and Trik is in a frenzy - he sniffs the air, and his tail goes straight up, and he is very tense (at times). We are fine with keeping the separated, but we need to calm Trik down. This may be an ignorant question - but would neutering Trik make a Huge difference???? Some say yes - some say not at all??? He just walks around and whines, and looks out the door for him. I also thought of bringing Trik to a "boot camp" to learn seriuos manners. He does not listen AT ALL when he sees another dog, or even Keiser now....he is a totally different dog than the goofball we know of. I just want my happy family back, and I find myself nervous, and upset stomach constantly.
>>Check out this website www.k9one.com they do training for aggressive dogs - but it is real expensive, and I need more info before I do anything.
>>Please let me know what you think - I have read past posts about agressiveness....I know that Trik wants to be Alpha - and I think Keiser is too old to care anymore...why can't Trik just take it over, and leave everyone alone? Trik gets this scary look in his eye - like he will take out anyone who gets in his way when he is in his Dog aggressive way.
>>I live in CT (near NY)- anyone know of any trainers for AB's? I love my dogs - I can't get rid of them.....NEVER - but I want to help the situation - it may never be perfect...but I need to calm my nerves! SORRY SO LONG.....Thanks in Advance Sarah (any questions just ask!)

I offered (and so did others on the AmBull forum) suggestions but I was hoping you guys could add more. Read the thread on AmBulls and see what you come up with....

Hi my name is Derrick and I also own a American Bulldog and I don't understand why all the talk is about the aggression with this breed. The American Bulldog is not typically dog aggressive although like any breed this can happen, I think it is because of the two dogs being the same sex and with dominance issues getting him fixed would definetly help, my AB is not fixed and I take him to dog parks all the time and haven't had a problem but again i understand this can happen, well good luck and happy bulldogging.
