breeding my dachshund

roxierue Nov 11, 2003 09:36 PM

I would like to breed by dachshund - who will be 2 in Dec. I tried during her last heat cycle and obviously did not have the timing correct. We had heard that the optimum days were between the 9th & 11th day so we started a little earlier than that - but I think we stopped too soon. Can someone please tell me when is the best time. She began bleeding yesterday 11/10. The owner of the male dachshund would very much like to conceive puppies this time. Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated as I have not done this before. Thanks

You and your dog need for you to have a highly responsible breeder, preferably a Dachshund breeder, as mentor and helper. Breeding your dog is a huge job, often quite expensive, and life-threatening to the dog. Is the person who bred the female dog available to help you?
