Lab in heat

cindyfred Nov 19, 2003 04:10 PM

I have a question in regards to my female lab. Annie is in her second heat. She is eleven months old. Her first heat seemed really short, her spotting was very minimal. We do plan on having her spade but haven't yet done it yet and low and behold she is in heat again. This time she is bleeding very heavily, has loose stools and is generally out of sorts. I was just wondering how long this will last so we can plan on getting her into the vet asap and I believe she cannot be spade when she is in heat? Any information would be appreciated.

Contact your veterinarian about the timing of the spay. The heat lasts about 3 weeks, sometimes 4. But if she had what appeared to be a heat cycle younger than this, it may not have been a heat cycle--or this one may not be. She could be ill. I'd definitely have her checked.
