the effect of Agility on Obedience

aysel Nov 20, 2003 10:21 PM

Well, good news!! Sophie passed her Secondary test and is now officially a Novice dog!!

We are going to be doing Beginners Agility and Novice Obedience now. One concern I have is how the Agility will impact her Obedience. Have any of you seen this occur? I have heard of a few dogs losing interest in Obedience after they begin Agility and some that just get sloppy after Agility.

What have you experienced?

A Dog Owner's Prayer

Oh Lord, don't let me once forget how I love my trusty pet.
Help me learn to disregard canine craters in my yard.
Show me how to be a buddy even when my sofa's muddy.
Don't allow my pooch to munch postal carriers for lunch.
Shield my neighbor's cat from view--guide my steps around the doo.
Train me not to curse and scowl when it's puppy's night to howl.
Grant I shan't awake in fear with a cold nose in my ear.
Give me patience without end--help me be my dog's "best friend".

Thanks so much! I love her to pieces. After passing her test I've noticed a big change in her. It's like she knows that she did a really big thing and is a lot more obedient and listens very well! All of the dogs were very wiggly and happy after they announced that all who tested passed. I swear they can read our emotions.

She is 11 months old. I hope to test her for CGC, CD, TD, maybe even UD some day if she gets to that level. BIG hopes for her, I'm a nut. LOL

She's not perfect. She gets a bit too hyper and mouthy sometimes.

She decided to assist me in wrapping a few presents today, lol... She tried to sample the wrapping paper, the tape, the presents, etc. and she insisted that she help me wrap them by sticking her face on the present where I was taping or folding the paper onto it. "what are you doing? can i see? cool! *sniff sniff sniff* can i help? let me help please please please" LOL. silly girl.

I gave her a few leftover pieces that were unusable to play with and shred up. That distracted her for a little while. hehe

I think she'll get a new dog bed for xmas and a few bones
