Obedience classes-do you think?

giodane Nov 30, 2003 03:42 AM

My doberman is going to be 5 months Dec. 13th.
He knows basic stuff like, Sit, lay down...
But he's hyper when we try and work with him. Would you all suggest seeking dog obedience classes?
Is this a good age to start?

Thanks!

Absolutely yes, start training classes with the dog, after first making sure they are good classes. He needs the experience of working around other dogs who are all under control. Your best results will come from starting as soon as possible and continuing throughout adolescence--until he's at least a year old, maybe longer. He's going through some critical development periods now, and if you wait, you'll miss the chance for him to get the maximum benefit from classes.
