Dalmatian Arthritis

dalluvr Dec 18, 2003 11:15 PM

Our 9 year old dalmatian, Amy, has been getting worse and worse as far her arthritis goes. She's having so much trouble getting up after laying down and walking.. it's really depressing. My mother asked me to come on here and find whether it is common for them to have arthritis so young, and what the best treatments are. She has a vet apointment on the 29th, hopefully that will help.

I'm sorry to hear about Amy. 9 is considered senior in dogs. If you consider her age in people years, she's about 60. My 12 year old has arthritis in her backend. She has problems laying down and sometimes walking. She hates to climb the stairs and was actually refusing to go up and down. We tried accupunture, rimydal and neither worked. We are now using Deramaxx and she's climbing the stairs again! Ask your vet what all you can try and see what helps her. Each dog is different.

I also get depressed watching her. She's my love and I it is hard to thing that she may not be with me much longer.

Please keep us posted!!!
