anole eggs

gyke May 27, 2003 06:05 PM

How sturdy are anole eggs? Yesterday I found an egg hidden under one of the rocks in my anoles' cage. It counld have been there only for about a day but when I piched it up it was slighty cool to the touch. All of the sides are slightly caved in. Is there a chance the egg is still good? It was late and I couldn't think of anyhting alse so I put it in with my water dragon eggs to keep it warm and moist.

Well if you turned it it is allready dead. But if could be good or dead. I hach anoles and well if it was cool and if it was hard than it is dead. OK if it is dark yellow it's dead but if it is white with yellow or just white it can be good. Just put it in a moist warm soil or dirt at 85 to 92 temp. If it turns hard or very very yellow in the next few days it's not good.

Ryoko

I am having some problems with my Knight anole eggs getting dried out and getting moldy they lay lots of eggs ( I have 3 females so I have had about 7 eggs laid so far) last night i found one on the floor and it was just freshly laid its was a smooth white with only a small dent in it. I put it in some fresh soil and covered the pot with a damp papertowel and set it in the window to keep it warm but not in the sun. Do you have any more advice to help hatch these eggs when I get them? They lay the eggs at odd times and i dont find them until its too late. should i put a flat tray full of builders sand for them or top soil ( its sterile) ? any help will be great! thanks Jen

Well try to put soil all in the tank floor. And well do you have a inkeybater (sorry if I spelled it wrong) to put the eggs in because they want hach in a pot by the window? I just use a mid size green house plant box with moist soil. I put the temp up to 90 and about 40 or more or less days they hach if they are good. If they start to rot or dry out way before then they are no good. But any way just make sure to keep the soil in the tank moist and warm so they will lay the eggs in it. If they don't they may know the eggs wont make it. (some times they know these things.)

Here is a green anole site I know it may not be night anoles but just take a look at the egg part. It should help.
