My doberman is still struggling with house training. We're trying real hard. He won't go out in the rain! He will go number 1 but not 2. And I know he needs to go because the way he acts etc. which he'll go any other time. But if he doesn't eliminate and I know he needs to go number 2, I don't want it in my apartment, should I put him in his cage. Then try a little later??

Thanks

Dobermans generally despise going out in the rain so this is really not a surprising problem. When it's raining, it's not unusual that you probably will have to accompany them to convince them they aren't going to melt.

There is a trick that show people use to get their dogs to go poop. I wouldn't suggest using this method all of the time, just in special times like when it's raining or you're on a very tight schedule and you know he has to go before you leave, for example.

You take a strong wooden match, moisten the end slightly with water and insert the head of it into the anus. The dog will poop within about 2 minutes, if it even takes that long. Like I said, use this method only if absolutely necessary.
