Lump on Lab PLEASE RESPOND.

theloon13 Jan 05, 2004 04:04 PM

Hello everyone.
I have a serious question, a couple yesterday I picked up my new lab puppy. "Champ", is a 16 week old yellow male. He is absolutley gorgious and so far (even though its only been 24 hours) he is a complete angel. He has not pooped or peed in his crate once, and he hasn't even gone to the bathroom in the house. He gets along perfectly w/ our 2 year old yellow male Jinx too. Champ plays a little, he does like to sleep and he seems to have a good appetite. But I noticed last night he has a small lump on the underside of his tail towards the base. Its about a half in long and seems to be a perfect circle. I can't see it because of his fur, and rather than rock hard, its a little spongey feeling but firm. It doesn't seem to hurt him because he lets me look at it and touch it. He also wags his tail just fine.
Now I know everyone is going to say "Get him to a vet!", and hes going right away but the soonest I was able to get an appointment was for this thursday at 4 pm. What I am asking all of you is for your opinions on what it could be. I don't need horror stories because I read them all last night on different websites in tumors. I just need a little peice of mind to hold me over until we see Dr. North our vet. I know alot of dogs and cats get "lumps and bumps", I'm just curious to see what it is because thursday seems so far away.
When I picked him up at the breeder's place all the dogs seemed healthy and active and Champ came running right over to me, so he seems to be very very healthy.
Any help would be great!!
Thanks
-Chris

I have 2 chocolates myself and they both have those kind of lumps. I paniced and took mine to the vet, but it turned out to be fat lumps. They won't go away, but you will have to watch your puppies diet because it means he is more prone to gaining weight than most labs. For comparison this is my little one Brandy. Just under her chest you can see a little round lump. She has had it since she was a year old. It never bothers her and it's not serious.
