Hi Ryan and welcome!

How exciting, a new puppy! I'm no expert on how this should go, so I think you'll have to decide at the time. If she is doing fine in the crate, I'd leave her there on the trip home. However, I think it would be ok to hold her too if you wish. Some people may think it is safer for the puppy to stay in the crate though. Anyway, I'd suggest stopping at least twice on the trip home to let her out for exercise. There are usually rest stops if your on the highway, or other places along the way where you could stop.

Come back and let us know how it goes!!!

Such a small breed and young dog, you might even need to stop more often than once an hour for her to relieve herself, if she's not asleep. Be sure to take along plenty of old towels and paper towels in case of a mess in the car, and some garbage bags to contain any dirty/wet materials to get them home without further mess. Also make sure you have a secure harness and leash to keep her safe when you set her down to potty, and never have the car door open unless she is either safely closed up in her crate or you have the harness on her and the end of the leash securely in your hand. A cat harness could be perfect for this trip. Also see what the breeder recommends! If you have two people going, you might consider one driving while the other cuddles the sleeping puppy on some old towels.
