Great Dane and weight gain

ferretfan Feb 07, 2004 07:42 PM

Hello everyone. I am the mommy of a huge array of animals and one just happens to be a Boston Great Dane. She will be 3 months old in March and I am wondering if anyone has ideas on how to put a little weight on her. She has never really gained much weight and always looks a little thin to me and she will eat anything and everything...(wishes i could stay as thin as her and eat it all..ha ha). Any help would be great, thanx

During the growing period a giant breed requires an astonishing amount of food. You'll need to keep her lean, though, because overweight during this time of life has been linked to increased risk of problems such as hip dysplasia later. This is a serious risk for Great Danes. Take her to your veterinarian for an evaluation of her weight and condition and advice on what and how much to feed her.
