I just have a ? for you guys?? Why do some people crop there pits ears and some don't.

I'm not 100% sure but I would have to say for personal preferance. I think that cropped ears look really good when their short ears not really long. Another reason, though a sad one at that is if you see a dog with barley any ears maybe just a little tuff of skin and ear it was probably done wrong or was going to be fought. The cut the ears very short on fighting dogs so that the other opponent dog can't grab them by the ear. Show might have something to do with cropped ears too!

Cropped or not is the question..

It is 5:45 in the morning and I have to get to bed so I'll make this short.

Both are a matter of opinion or preferance so I'll give the pros and cons....

----Having ears cropped-----

1.are short
2. make the dog look meaner
3. allow dirt and filth to go inside the ear canal and require MUCH MORE cleaning
4. People think this is a fight cut when they are wrong and misinformed and may give you unwanted attention
5.many cities have bans on this breed and this will make it easier to pinpoint your dog.
6. If your dog were to get into a fight by chance, it is BETTER to have the ear than to have it cut off. If the ear is there it give the other dog something to go for and try to grab. If it has no ear the other dog will go after the nub and bite into the ear nanal. Now you tell me which causes more damage? And why just about every old timer fighting dog HAS ITS EARS? Its just one more thing the dumb a$$ media wants you to buy into when you don't know. Well, now you know.

1. keeps infections to a minimum
2. is better in the case of an accident of a dog scuffle
3. looks more appealing to the public and less threatening to the kids and citizens *rolls eyes*
4.is less likely that the insurance company when they come out for homeowners insurance will know you have a APBT which many will not insure you if they find out or revoke it once they find out
5. is just more natural feeling to the dog and will also have less problems if ticks decide to hitch a ride.
6. dog shows prefer the original standard for the breed which the originals HAD EARS but some judges like cropped so it depends on the judge.. *winks at person who didn't know who posted above me*
7.its 5:45am and I am dilerious and need some sleep so I'll bring more tomorrow or something...

100% agree with previous poster.

Take a look on show dogs vs gamedogs and see who has more cropped ears.

Yup. They need more folks like us in here top help out and answer questions based on false statements they have learned from other sources......
