I think he's gorgeous!!
haha, I'm happy to see that one of us got a Dutchie!
Tell me more about him! How are his drives? Where did you get him from? Keep me posted on his progress with SchH!
A new male AB came into the club and he's AWESOME. A real powerhouse with a natural ability to do the work. He's biting a pillow and flying through the air for the grip on his second day training ever.
Did you hear? I found a litter that I want to get a male AB from. Sire is SchHIII TRIII. Dam is the daughter of a Supreme Gr Ch and SchH BH dog (Toro). She is still working in SchH towards her titles. Breeder said that all Toro pups are like Mals in a Bulldog body, very drivey. I'll have to visit the parents. Breeder is only two hours away. They won't be bred until this fall. Pups prob won't be ready until around this time next year.

Oh Lord, don't let me once forget how I love my trusty pet.
Help me learn to disregard canine craters in my yard.
Show me how to be a buddy even when my sofa's muddy.
Don't allow my pooch to munch postal carriers for lunch.
Shield my neighbor's cat from view--guide my steps around the doo.
Train me not to curse and scowl when it's puppy's night to howl.
Grant I shan't awake in fear with a cold nose in my ear.
Give me patience without end--help me be my dog's "best friend".

His drives are just OK, they definitely need some building. The person that I got him from was, to say the least, not active. I don't know why he had such an active dog for an apartment life that never sees the park or other creative outlets for his energy level.
After a little more bonding and imprinting I'll introduce him to the bite rag and see how he does. As of now, he doesn't have much of a ball drive, but it's never been worked. But, you can never complain about a FREE Dutchie!
Tom
wow! you lucked out! Good Luck with building his confidence and drives for that good 'ole ScH work.
Some people are just plain ignorant when they invest in a breed.

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.
Unfortunately, they are not yet recognized by the A.K.C. They are still considered a rare breed in the US. But I'm going to give every effort to the A.K.C. to change this!
Tom
why do you want them to be recognized by the AKC?
Us AB people are fighting to keep the American Bulldog out of the AKC.

It's kind of nutty actually, I don't care if a Dutchie EVER makes into a conformation ring. But, the AKC is currently writing a proposal for their own recognizable bite sport. And you know how driven I can be for a driven dog... If they get the proposal done, I don't have to travel so far to find a decent trail! So, in that respect, my "wish" is kind of self-centered. It would just give me something local that I could use to better prepare my own dogs for trail. I.E...take a first time dog to a SchH trail and score low...or use the AKC for practice and make that first mark in the score book come in with a BANG...or more appropriately, a BITE! lol
Tom
Wow, you got a nice looking one. And for FREE!!!! wHAT THE HELL WAS THAT GUY SMOKING? Was he on drugs or ? ????
The only ones who know about this breed are ones who actually know how to work a dog like this.
I know of them, have dealt with them, and they are great. I was just on a Police officer forum tonight as a matter of fact talking about the breed.
Anyhow, enjoy him. You still have a chance to imprint the dog. Get ready!!!!! He is going to become like night and day. better get him used to the out command, etc. This is the time. You don't want a fear biting shy protection or sport dog. You'll lose. Trust me. If someone breaks in your house the dog will be protecting his own a$$ and not necessarily yours. Then will not respond to commands to let go of the person he's apprehending out of fear when you tell him if the person is not a threat.
But anyhow, enjoy him or her. I forget. I was on the brink of getting one. But instead I chose to buy a Mal overseas and am enjoying her. They are all fun but you MUST be acxtive as we all know. I hate those people who think they can change a dog b/c they are lethargic and boring. I have owned and bred Am. Pit Bull Teriers for the longest time (15-16 yrs) and still have people coming up to me thinking they can over rule the genetics. yes, they are human friendly to the extreme but not necessarily dog frien;dly. The same goes for these breeds being discussed. You have to know what and when to do what. Both, Dutchies, mal's, or even Pits are not for beginners. PERIOD. But for somereason fools don't get it....
Unfortuneatly. Sad But true...
Enjoy it... Be fun.... The dog is getting used to you and should snap out of that BS in no time provided it has been bred for solid nerves, etc and for work (as most are). This is one of the few breeds not ruined by the AKC and other folks who breed the work and drives out of a dog to make it look pretty. It is totally impractical and horrid if you ask me. Whgat's the point of a car that looks like a Dodge Viper if it performs like a Honda Accord?
