My new possible puppy!!

Ravyn11 Mar 01, 2004 05:18 PM

Thank you, first, for all the advice. I've talked to several breeders and read up a great deal on doxies and so far things look like they'll work fine. I've had a hand in dog training, and more importantly, I have TONS of time and patience to devote. I'm planning on litter box training, and whenever I'm not home or in direct supervision, the baby will have the run of the large kitchen.

I'm in cahoots with a breeder right now. She has a six week old red dapple male (opposite sex from my current dog ) that will be ready to go in another six weeks. I'm waiting right now to put the deposit down to give me a chance to talk to her veterinarian and check out her references. He is such a cutie and a sweetie pie! I'm very excited about this. He also comes with a 72 hour communicable guarantee and a year long genetic guarantee. He's been wormed once and will be wormed again before I get him. If we decide to proceed, her vet is checking him immediately prior to me picking him up...and MY vet is checking him immediately AFTER I pick him up.

Anyway, here's the picture she gave me of him. Isn't he a DOLL??? He carries for black/tan, dapple, and piebald...not that I'm going to breed him. I'm thinking of calling him Oscar if I do get him.

He is adorable!!!! Sounds like you found a greyt breeder. The things I like seeing is that the breeder won't let him go until age 12 weeks, references, vet checked, and guarantees! Will the breeder also take him back if there is ever any problems with you keeping him?

Cute name too!! I want one.

Well, I THOUGHT she was a great breeder. In the middle of checking her references she called me. Get this...she SOLD the puppy to someone else! How rude is that? How do you have a buyer for a puppy who is checking your references and turn around and just sell the dog to someone else? Because they slapped down the non-refundable deposit BEFORE checking her references?

That ticks me off.

I guess its back to looking.

OH MY! That is awful :'(

That is such a cutie--but don't worry! There are plenty more doxie's out there and you will find your little angel soon enough :D

I'm so sorry! This is awful. What a rude person. I feel if she was concerned for the well being of the puppy, she would want to sell to someone that is willing to check her out first. I would think she would want to check you out too.

When I worked in greyhound rescue, we didn't just give the dog over to someone right then and there. They had to fill out an adoption form, get their references checked and we checked out their home.

I know you'll find another and good luck!

That's what I thought too. There's no way in blazes I'm going to buy a puppy from someone without checking references and talking in person with their vet. Period. I would fully expect them to do the same with ME. And I'm not about to put down a non-refundable deposit BEFORE said checks. I mean, if they don't check out, I'm out that money. It's not like I can slap down half a dozen or so deposits before I find a breeder I'm comfortable with.

Ah, well. My pup is out there. I shall find him, and all's the more pity for these other money-grubbers.
