rare breeds at dog park

cbg Mar 07, 2004 03:34 PM

The dog park was busy yesterday and I saw two breeds I had never seen before. One couple had a pair of leonbergers and another guy had a wirehaired pointing griffon. I love to see the variety of dogs there. The two leonbergers in this picture have more black than the ones at the dog park, but otherwise look very much like them. They are about the size of a St. Bernard and are very handsome dogs. The wirehaired pointing griffon was a very amiable and well-trained dog. There was also a mastiff, which actually is not that uncommon around here anymore, but still a very impressive dog. Yes, and he slobbers a lot!

Hello

The breed is called Cão da Serra da Estrela.
I's a breed from my Country Portugal.

There are two varieties long hair and short hair.

The ones in the picture have long hair.

They are Mountaing dogs.
They wore breed by shepards on Serra da Estrela to take care of the animals and protect them from wolfs.
They wore also used as guard dogs.
