I have a 10 week old Lab pup that suddenly had problems with his hind legs. Up until 2 days ago he was a normal, energetic, playful pup. Then, the other day when I let him out of his crate, he seemed to have a difficult time getting up on all fours. At first I thought he just slept wrong and was a little stiff. But the problem is getting worse, not better.
I immediately took him to my vet, and she performed several tests...blood work, x-rays, etc. Everything was in normal range, except he was a little anemic. She kept him overnight, and the next day he seemed worse.
I brought him home and have been giving lots of TLC. I can prop him up on all four legs, and he will walk a short distance. Then he just collapses. He doesn't seem to be in any pain. Just weak. One thing I noticed is that the muscles in his rear legs look like they are disintegrating. His rear legs look like they are getting very thin.
I called the breeder and he was no help. He suggested a reaction to vaccines or possibly worms.
The vet is treating him with antibiotics and wormed him again. I have not seen any worms in his stool. Stool is normal. No diarrea or vomitting.
Can anyone help me with this one? My vet is referring me to a specialist (Neurologist).
