Hi and welcome!

Congratulations on your new baby. You can name him anything you want, and he will soon learn what it is. Just call his name whenever you want him to come, using maybe a treat or toy to entice him to come to you. My girls come to me with several names I call them.

Please come back and let us know what you decide!

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.

Well I don't know.... most of my dogs have known their names by six weeks, and are attached to their name. It might totaly depend on the dog.

Good Luck!!

He should learn any name you give him....My golden was rescued at about the same age as yours, 1-2 years. I have heard that names that end in the eeeeee sound, like Murphy...Fluffy, Monte, etc sound catchy, and they are more inclined to listen, but for me, Midas worked fine, he likes the name and learned it very quickly!

When I worked at the shelter, we always renamed the dogs that came in. Well most of them were strays. But the behaviorist told us to rename the ones that weren't. That dogs would associate the old name they had to all their bad happens. She told us it was best to give them a new name. All the dogs learned their new names with in a week. So pick something you like and that you won't mind calling out in your back yard.
Congradulations on your new furbaby. Have lots of fun and enjoy him for many years.
