How big do they get?

setmax7 Apr 06, 2004 08:31 PM

I know there are a bunch of different places to find all this info but i figured it would be easier to ask people who actually own boxers. I was just wondering how big do they get? How active are they, do they like to run around and play frisbee or anything? Do they shed a lot? Anything else you want to tell me is awesome. Thanks

Hello! This will probably be a nice long thread, people here love talking about their pets
Boxers usually get 60 to 70 lbs., (I'm told, mine's still a pup). They're indoor dogs and love to be around people. They don't like being outside dogs. They're great with kids and fearcely protective of their owners. They make great guard dogs and great pets. They're very expressive in their faces, their easily trained and intelligent. They shed like any other animal, but their coats are very short, so that's a plus.
They are energetic, but not like dalmations or other herding class dogs that require tons and tons of excersize. But they do need it. We walk our dog once or twice a day, and to a fenced in park once a week to let him run, jump and play.
Boxers are from the working class, origonally bred to guard estates and take down large game and hold it until the master arrived. This is the reason for the wide jaw. And because of this they can run very fast and jump really high.
If you want more research, you can go to:
www.boxerworld.com to see lots of pictures of full grown boxers and how big they get.
you can go to numerous boxer sites using search engines to find out more about the history of the boxer, it's temperment, and ideal living conditions.
I hope I helped, and good for you to do your research before you buy your pet, I wish more people did that!

Good Luck!
Destany

Just talked to a friend of mine who got a Boxer girl at Xmas due to the fact their boy is 7, and has a heart murmur, they believe in being prepared.

Melly is TINY!! Think she says she weighs in at about 45 lbs at 6 months!! She's smart, her uncle that they have is not too bright LOL.
