Sorry I have to agree with HerpGirl on this one. Anoles may be inexpensive in themselves, but they are FAR from a beginners lizard. I bought some as a gift for my husband (and well they ended up being my responisbility) and aside from the small price tag on the animal themselves you've got a LARGE price tag if you want to set them up so that they remain alive for any amount of time and a LOT of learning and care and time and patience. Plus these little guys aren't "hold me" lizards, it can cause serious stress for the poor critter and the majority don't tolerate it at all without a struggle (I don't know of ANY kids wanting to hold something that will bite and thrash and struggle to get away and then avoid being caught again at all costs). I know that mine are happy as long as they don't think I want to hold them. They're fine with me cleaning their terrarium once a week, but I've arranged that so I don't have to move them out of it to do so. There are so many other critters that make good pets, but none really that I can think of that make good pets for children who don't have parents willing to do most if not all of the work to keep them up because the kids sure won't.
Sorry for the rant I get off on those sometimes because I hate seeing animals mistreated from ignorance of not knowing the animals needs.
BTW I'm new here so hello everyone, I've been really enjoying reading the forums here!!
