Thinking of getting another!

katie_and_gabe Apr 15, 2004 11:25 AM

Hi all

I was wondering if you think it would be a good idea to bring another puppy into the house. Katie and I think it would be good for her to have a playmate.

The only problem (is it?) I think there would be is the age difference in the dogs. Bailey is now around 5 months old. Will she react well to a new baby puppy? She can be a bit rough when playing and I would worry about the new puppy getting hurt.

Does anyone have experience with this? I know we should have gotten them together, but puppies can be expensive!

I got a kitten for my dawg. You have to think about your dog. Mine is very unique. Has a great personality. He's most fabulous...but he needed a companion during the day. I got an 11 week old kitten and most would think the Kitty was a Doxie! He was raised with one. Dachshunds are a handful themselves. I can't imagine having 2. Kitty worked out perfect, and he sleeps under the covers too...

How old is Katie now? It is often best to wait until the dog is 2 or so, that way you aren't dealing with the same issues as in housetraining, obedience training, etc., at the same time. Also, if you do decide that Katie needs a friend, I'd get a male. Often, same sex doesn't work out very well.

Good luck on whatever you decide!
