Crating/not accepting human food training.

My mom and I are having a serious talk about not getting another dog when Butterball goes. Which will be for a long time! The problem we are having is my dad, he won't stop giving Butter human food and we keep telling him stop it. He gives Butter a handful of Orange Curls and couple of Ritz crackers. Every morning she get a doggie biscuit. She has gain alot of weight since coming and living house from last year.

If I do get another dog, I would like to train not accept human food. But I would like to be trained be in Crate while we are eating. Does anybody know a good way train a dog and how long should they stay in a crate? We are usually done eating in half hour, is that too long?

Sorry, I have the same problem with my brothers; all 4 of them (I'm the oldest, 16) and they just kept feeding macintosh till he weighed about 100lb. I finaly told them that he could DIE if they fed him too much, he could have a heart attack or get diabetes, or his hips could get bad (he's a golden retriever)

That's prettymuch stopped it; as of now he gets NO people food, except for chopped apples in his wet dog-food in the morning, wich are healthy for him, and a plate of PLAIN spagetti once a week wich is good for his coat.

I'm not sure WHY your dad would want to hurt your dog... but are you sure that it's really good to GET another dog if you're dad just won't listen? It will probably happen again. I don't think any dog that is offered food freely will refuse, i could be wrong though.

Macintosh WON'T eat human food if you just show it to him, you have to say things to him, make him do a trick, or poke him with the food to make him eat it (wich is by EXTREME self controll because he LOVES human food)... All I'm saying is that if you're dad cares so little for this dog's health then maybe getting a 2nd one really ISN'T a good idea...

OMYGOSH, that sounds horrable! i'm sorry, I just don't know how else to say it! Please don't be mad!!
