PA mini Doxie breeders

blckkat Apr 30, 2004 06:05 PM

I am having no luck finding any AKC breeders (with pups or expected pups) in the PA/MD region. I am getting thoroughly frustrated. I've contacted the Minature Dachshund Club of America, AKC referral service and breeders I've found in a Dog magazine.

Is their anyone out there who can help me?

I'm specifically looking for a smooth choc and tan female. I'm also interested in a black and tan smooth male, black and tan dapple long male, choc and tan long female and a red long female.

Any and all help will be appreciated!

Hi,

You're going the correct route. I went through the same ordeal when I was looking for a mini 2 years ago. It took me 6 months to find a breeder, then we had to wait to see if the female had a little girl. There were 2 people ahead of us for the female from the litter. They only had 1 female and we really lucked out in getting her. The other 2 ahead of us changed their minds.

Do they have any dog shows in your area? Try going if there are any. You may come across one that way.

Keep looking for a reputable breeder. It is worth the wait.

You want four dogs? I'm confused. If you're looking for one dog to be a family companion dog, consider an adult dog the breeder has decided not to breed or show again, or a dog from rescue. Check the AKC website, www.akc.org, for the breeder referral contact person and the national rescue contact person for Dachshunds.

Don't give up on getting a dog from a reputable breeder. If you settle for "whatever", you will probably be sorry. How long have you been trying? Would you be interested in an older dog? I'll try to do a little research for you.

I purchased a mini male doxie in July 2003. It was a hard decision between him and his brother. I have still been in contact with the owner and she decided to hold onto the brother. Recently I visited them on Easter and she may decide to have another litter. I asked if SPOT is still available and she said yes, but she stopped advertising because she got so attached. My Skeeter is purebread and she had the papers from both parent and if I could have more than one doxie I would go see her again for another. She is located in Rockwood, PA (very close to Somerset, PA). Spot is a dapple. They were brought up around kids and my Skeeter is friendly as can be.
