New here, a few questions

My dobe is four and he has been getting terrible hot spots. Or at least thats what the vet calls them. I have tried the ointment from the pet store he told us to use and it didn't seem to help. He is fine through the whole winter and as soon as it gets warm he starts chewing again. Are the hot spots allergies?

He also just got a non canceroues lump removed about 3 months ago. The vet said it may come back and I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with this. THe vet told us his skin type makes them more succeptable to them but I have never seen another one with them.
Heres some pics of my dobe who's names byron.

You don't say where the hot spots are, but it might possibly be allergies. Do you use a good flea control product? Fleas can be an allergen, so can grass, ect.... Most allergies in dogs will show up as skin problems.
As far as the lump goes, fatty tumors (lipomas), they are very commen in Dobermans especially as they age - 4 does seem a little young, but not unheard of.

One of my dobies who is now 8 has loads of fatty lumps. He has had none of them removed as he had a reaction to anesthetic during castration and the vet is worried about using any kind of anesthetic on him. They are nothing to worry about and are very very common in dobies.

We use advantix on him. Most of the spots are on his legs right above his feet. I went to petsmart today to see if they had anything else to try but they were out of the wipes we haven't tried yet. Thanks for the replys!I'm thinking about taking him to the vet my grandma takes her shar peis to. THey have horrible allergies but they are nothing like his.

A veterinary dermatology specialist is sometimes your best bet for skin problems. Your veterinarian should be able to refer you to one. For the few hot spots my dogs have gotten, I've found coal tar shampoo from the veterinarian to be helpful. You can even make a paste of it and apply to just the hot spot, leave on for 10 minutes, and rinse thoroughly. But you need to find out the underlying cause of the hot spots and deal with that. They also need to be monitored by a veterinarian, because they can progress to serious systemic infections.
