HELP!!!! Hypoglycemic Yorkie - 8 weeks approx.

moonstone23 Jun 20, 2004 11:42 AM

I recently bought a 8 week old female Yorkshire Terrier for 800$... upon getting her she was pretty floppy and lazy and by morning she would not even lift her head. her gums were pure white. the vet said to give her honey, this seemed to work. I took her to the vet and he said that if it happens again, do the same thing, she is hypoglycemic.

THis now has happened two times in the last week... She seems to not want to eat. is there anything else I can do to make sure her sugar doesn't get too low ?????and is there something better than honey to bring her out of it if it happens???

my other male yorkie did not have these problems as a pup, but we got him at 10-12weeks.

Ok... I hope this will help you. Put a tablespoon of sugar into a small bowl of water and give to your dog several times throughout the day. You will eventually be able to cut back on the amount of sugar you are given as the dog gets older. Karo syrup works GREAT when they do have a sugar drop. Make sure they have a supply of a good quality dog food down all day as well. I use Royal Kanine puppy 33 for my yorkies and it is great, I get it at PetSmart. You may also be able to contact the breeder that you bought the puppy from about letting it go back with his mommy for a few more weeks, because 8 weeks is really to young for a yorkie to be taken from their mom. They are not ready to be solely on puppy food, but if that is not an option, you can give them puppy milk replacement, you can get it from any pet store, or goas milk with their food. That makes them eat alot better. I hope this helps. If you need anymore help just ask.
