got golden retriever puppy?

goldenpuppy Jun 30, 2004 03:38 PM

Ok we just got a golden retriever puppy my boyfriend purchased him.I have never had one before the only breed I have ever owned was American Pitbull Terriers funny how that sounds, but I always had a really good bond with mine. Well I lost mine a few weeks ago so I was extremely heartbroken.Okay my problem that I was extremely upset about was he purchased the puppy on a whim from the petstore after we saw him I told him I thought the dog was cute and everything and he would be a great dog to own,but I dont condone where the dogs come from.I wanted to shop around for a breeder. Well he did'nt inform me that he planned on purchasing him and actually went and spent everyday at the mall with the dog.Now I have a dog I'm scared to death is going to die!Nothing seems to be wrong with him,but he did have a cold a few weeks after being at the store and diarrea when he came in they told him its also on the papers. They also told him the dog was 12 weeks old which is also not true the dog was born3/7 of this year and he was purchased Sunday the 6/26th.The dog was brought to the store on 5/11 which would have made him 10 weeks old.The price of the dog was originally 700 he bought the dog for 400. They also said they bought from the same breeder for the certain breed.I looked this place up it is called arlo farms its in Iowa.It does'nt have enough pics of the farm so I cant tell if it is a puppymill but I have my doubts seriously. They breed more then one type of dog.No clearances for anything that I have checked up on which highly urks me.So now basically he has a free vet visit which was included in the purchase at there chosen vet not in the petstore. He has a year warranty. Also papers on this dog give the names of parents the breeder and akc registration number but akc on both dogs has a scratch through them. They said they would contact him within 90-120 days to do his paperwork which I have a feeling is crap too. What should I do about him? Take him to another vet and have him checked? Will he be okay?Right now supposedly he is registered with the American Pet Registry. He also is updated on all vaccinations. Please can someone help me I dont want to fear for his life I have never had this problem with any of my dogs they were 100% healthy I knew my breeder and they were legit.I've emailed the breeder trying to find out anything about him or his parents and of course who really thinks I will get a reply and of course I live in PA so its not like I'm going to Iowa anytime soon.

Well, you've got this puppy now, so make the best of it as I'm sure you are attached to him already. I would take him to MY vet and have him thoroughly checked over. Since he is going to be a pet, I wouldn't worry about getting the paperwork. It isn't worth anything anyway. Any purebred can have papers and they really aren't that big of a deal, in my opinion.

BTW...what is his name? Got pictures?

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.

You should just relax!

-Take the puppy to your trusted vet and have him checked: health issue solved!

-Don't stress so much about his papers, he is not just a object is he? He is a living dog that deserves to be loved even if he did come from a mill. You didn't know that, so don't blame yourself. Feel good that you can give this dog a good home, and don't buy from mill's in the future.

I got my dog from a family that bred their dog with a friend's golden for their mom, but then she got sick and couldn't take him, so I bought him. No papers, nothin, but guess what he is beautiful, healthy, and the best friend i could ever ask for!
